Connected to the smartphone, smart clock allows you to view messages, download applications and other functions. For users, the battery is the critical point.

Also called smartwatch, smart watches let you view notifications coming to your smartphone, download applications, and answer calls without touching your smartphone. Despite the promises of advertising, cheap smart watches have a long way to go to convince. And from what we saw at CES 2014, the Las Vegas electronics show, the brands are focused on the evolution of this technology.

Intelligent clocks have many limitations and their usefulness is dubious. If you still want to follow the trends, see our selection from 109 euros.

To know the opinion and the level of satisfaction of the users, we inquired more than 150 consumers. Almost half of the respondents (46%) received the smart watch as a gift. Among those who decided to equip themselves with a copy, the motivation for more than a third was curiosity, followed by the fascination with new technologies. For the trumps that smart clocks feature, the investment is very high. Our respondents paid € 100 to € 240 for the equipment.

The smart watch is not a stand-alone device. Most functions depend on the Bluetooth connection to your smartphone. Viewing the times and checking messages or email are the most common tasks. Almost half of the respondents use this watch especially during the day. Only a minority use it as a device for photographs and videos or as a GPS. Still, more than a third consult social networks through the smart clock.

Respondents are much more satisfied with the classic wrist watch, both in precision and in use. For the user, what makes the difference in a smart watch is the operation, use and applications. One in four respondents denounces the lack of battery life as the main criticism. But Bluetooth connection failures are also pointed out by 21 percent. A fifth of users complain about the malfunction of the applications and the poor use of the physical buttons.

Battery life is the major drawback. Smart clocks are another device to charge frequently, as well as the smartphone and tablet.

From the compatibility with the smartphone to the battery, through to the use, the respondents with Pebble are the most satisfied.

Half does not consider these watches as a major technological breakthrough. And they are not sure about the purchase recommendation. For the vast majority, smart watches will never replace the classics.
